Mike

Snazzy Pet, Mobile Grooming

Mike has been grooming pets for over 10 years. In 2004 he started Snazzy-Pet Full Service Mobile Grooming. Prior to starting Snazzy-Pet, Mike was part of the corporate world working with companies including Coca-Cola, Bellsouth, and The Interpublic Group. In 2002, Mike graduated Cum Laude from American Intercontinental University with a degree in International Business. "I think my education and corporate background helps me even in the pet care industry. Many of my clients have been or are still going through the corporate grind -- layoffs, and that whole scene. They seem to appreciate that I can relate."

Mike now devotes all his working time towards his passion, caring for pets. "My wife and I are parents to 5 rescue dogs plus I've had several cats and I have worked with horses. I learn more about caring for animals everyday."

Mike gets a lot of calls from people who feel that mobile grooming is better for their pet than taking them to a shop. "My clients appreciate that their pet does not have to sit in a cage for hours until it's their turn to get groomed. They also realize that by being one-on-one with the groomer, away from noisy dogs or animals that may have fleas or diseases, mobile grooming is a safer and much less traumatic option.

Because Mike sees a lot of older pets in his service he is always wondering how he can help these animals and make them feel better. "When I groom an animal, I always give it a good "once over" to check for skin or coat problems that could interfere with the groom; I often find deep mats or growths that need special attention, but I also look at the pet's eyes, teeth, gums and whole body. If I find something unusual, I always let the parent know so that they can have it checked by their vet."

Mike is now taking his concern for pets to the next level and is pursuing a degree in Veterinary Technology from Purdue University. "One great thing about mobile grooming is that I don't have to be locked away in a shop for 8 or 10 hours a day. With it's flexible schedule, mobile grooming lets me spend time working at the animal hospital to practice what I learn in class."

Teresa

Horses and Houses... Teresa Anderson Doesn't Horse Around!

A Cobb and Cherokee County resident for over 15 years and Georgia resident for over 20, Teresa Anderson knows her way around the county... from Marietta to Kennesaw, from Cartersville to Canton, to Alpharetta and beyond! But it wasn't until she got into selling real estate and combined her passion for houses and horses did she realize just how much ground she was going to have to cover.

As available acreage becomes more scarce and prices per acre hold at premiums the closer to Atlanta you are, it is logical that horse people who are now looking to move to the new rural suburban areas including neighboring counties to Cobb and Fulton such as Bartow and Paulding, and Cherokee, Forsyth, Dawson and Hall, heading north from Fulton County, are finding that it takes some due diligence to get to where they want to be.

Horse neighborhoods are one avenue she sources for her clients, with homes with 5 acres minimum with 4-board fencing their well-manicured front yard pastures. These equestrian communities offer a unique lifestyle for those in the equestrian family, both the two-legged and four-legged alike. Areas of note where Anderson has sold properties and steers her clients to, depending on price point and area are McEachern Farms in West Cobb and Garrison Farms in Cherokee, among others. But, Anderson warns, "Homes in these areas don't come available that regularly." Saddlebrook in Cobb/Kennesaw and Chattahoochee River Club in Forsyth/Hall, have communal barns for residents, but unfortunately, they appear to be underutilized. "We have found that the communal equestrian subdivision just doesn't seem to work. Folks want their own barn and property for the most part." Anderson notes

Other equestrian areas in Cherokee that are receiving additional awareness these days and are on the rise include as a new equestrian development near Lake Arrowhead, Etowah Downs, Liberty Hill/Mitchell Farms and others. You also have The Derby in Bartow, Cadence in Blue Ridge, Sagewood near Athens, Talaria in the Newnan area and others dotted throughout areas one to two hours surrounding Atanta. Of course your luxury estates such as Tullamore and Sunnybrook Farms are still staples in the upscale Alpharetta horsey set. "Not everyone has $1 million plus to spend, especially right now. And, when they do, they want more land is what I'm finding with my clients." Anderson notes. "Bob Negrelli (a colleague and the original horse farm specialist realtor), is doing some equestrian developments in Dawson county and they are priced in the $400-$500K range. That area was once considered pretty far up the 400N corridor and second home territory, but now even places such as Dawson, Waleska and Dacula are within commuting distance for many."

The scarcity of land in Cobb and the price point in N. Fulton have pushed many horse lovers seeking the live-with-your-horses-lifestyle into surrounding counties and that scenario is certainly evident in Cherokee County. Anderson states that she has clients contact her daily through her web site, www.GaHorseFarm.com, looking for horse farms in the area. Many are relocating here, some are making the transition from a subdivision, but want to stay as close in as possible. "The bottom line, it's a lifestyle shift," Anderson says, "There are a growing number of people who want more space and some land and would rather put their money into acreage and a house vs. a half a million dollar plus home on a quarter acre lot. Any many want this lifestyle for their children to grow up in, while others want this lifestyle to grow old in themselves!"

Anderson notes that the current landscape in the real estate market has not bypassed her horsey-stniche. "Things are tough right now for everyone, but we're tightening our bootstraps so to speak. We are staying the course and actually have been staying busy, contrary to what has been reported to us by others in the business. The Atlanta area will remain steady with the number of people moving here for work continuing to be strong. It is certainly a buyer's market right now and there are deals to be had. So, if you were thinking about buying a horse farm, now would be a good time!" she laughs. "You just have to sell your subdivision home first! Now that's the tough part!"

I'll admit it can get difficult to find the right property for a client and they can be demanding. But, just like working with a difficult horse, you have to take your time and be patient and not lose your temper. All in all, it can be challenging; my clients can be challenging, but it's a challenge I love and take on whole-heartedly. I am very lucky to work with such quality clients and have certainly found my niche! I love the land and feel so fortunate to be able to call such areas in Georgia my 'office' and go to work here. And, I love the animals too! My horses and my dogs bring such joy to my life! Such joy!" she sighs and smiles. "Horses and houses!  What a life!"
